The Bhutanese ngultrum (Nu.) is pegged 1:1 to the Indian rupee. Major currencies can be exchanged at the airport and banks in Thimphu and Paro.

Visa and Mastercard work in larger hotels and craft shops, but carry cash for markets, small cafés and tips. ATMs are available in Thimphu, Paro and district towns, though not every machine accepts foreign cards.
Paying for your trip
Trips are paid in advance by bank transfer or card, before the visa or permit is lodged. Your quote lists everything included so you know exactly what remains for personal spending.
