Best Time to Visit Bhutan
A month-by-month look at weather, festivals and crowds so you can choose the right season.
- Clearest skies
- October – December
- Flowers
- March – May
- Monsoon
- July – August
Bhutan is a year-round destination, but each season feels different.
Spring (March – May)
Rhododendrons and magnolias bloom across the passes, the days are warm and the Paro Tshechu brings the valley to life. Haze can hide the high peaks later in the season.
Summer (June – August)
The monsoon brings rain most afternoons but also green valleys, wildflowers and fewer travellers. It is a good time for culture-focused trips and for lower prices at some hotels.
Autumn (September – November)
The most popular season: crisp skies, harvest colours, the big Thimphu and Jambay Lhakhang festivals and the best trekking weather. Book flights and hotels early.
Winter (December – February)
Cold mornings but clear, sunny days with the best Himalayan views from Dochula. Black-necked cranes winter in Phobjikha, and Punakha stays pleasantly mild.
