- Left side flying into Paro from Delhi or Kathmandu
Paro is Bhutan’s only international airport, tucked into a narrow valley at 2,200 metres. Only two airlines fly here — the national carrier Drukair and private Bhutan Airlines — and only specially trained pilots can land.
Where you can fly from
Drukair and Bhutan Airlines both fly daily from Bangkok, Delhi and Kathmandu, and several times a week from Kolkata. Drukair also flies from Bagdogra, Guwahati and Dhaka, has a Singapore service routed via Guwahati and adds seasonal flights from Gaya in winter.
Booking tips
- Seats are limited and sell out in festival seasons — book as soon as your dates are fixed.
- Fares are rarely shown on global booking sites; we book directly with both airlines.
- On the Kathmandu–Paro flight, ask for a left-hand window seat going east to see Everest and Kanchenjunga.
- Morning flights are more reliable; afternoon winds and cloud cause most delays.
Arriving overland instead
Many Indian travellers enter by road. The main gate is Phuentsholing, about four hours from Bagdogra airport. In the south-east, Samdrup Jongkhar is about four hours from Guwahati.
